Behind the Tanks: Charlie’s Story Hits the Globe

Our Head Brewer, Charlie Cummings, has spent more than two decades deep in the Boston beer scene — and now, he’s put it all on paper. The Boston Globe just profiled his new book, Craft Brewing Might Not Be For You, a candid, funny, and sometimes gritty look at what it really means to work in craft beer. The title comes from something Charlie’s first boss told him on day one — and if you’ve ever met him, you know how ironic that turned out to be.

Part memoir and part technical deep dive, Charlie’s book traces his journey from washing kegs to leading our brewing program here at Remnant. It’s a love letter to the process, full of hard-earned wisdom, trial-and-error stories, and the kind of behind-the-scenes chaos that every brewer knows too well. He captures the delicate balance between science and instinct — or, as he puts it, “glorified Legos” for adults — and reminds readers just how much work and heart go into every pint.

We couldn’t be prouder to see Charlie and his story recognized.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like behind the tanks or what keeps brewers coming back despite the mess, long hours, and leaky valves, Craft Brewing Might Not Be For You is required reading. You can grab a copy now at lulu.com/shop — and maybe enjoy it with a pint of something Charlie brewed himself.
