Join us in kicking off our first ever coffee series! The first Friday of each month we will feature specially prepared roasts by Barrington Coffee Roasting Company to showcase and discuss the delicacies of speciality roast coffee.
March's featured Coffee will be Gato Negro ("Black Cat") in honor of Women's History Month.
Women are an essential part of global agricultural production particularly within the coffee industry and serve as the primary labor force in many production areas. Despite their immense efforts, these women often face fierce social and economic obstacles including disproportionately low compensation, lack of autonomy and ownership, and unfair labor practices to name a few.
We chose to feature this Peruvian roast because it is grown by a cooperative group of women farmers who work together as the Cooperativa Agraria Frontera San Ignacio (COOPAFSI). This shared equity cooperative was formed in 1969 and actively promotes the tenets of gender equity and the empowerment of women.
Stop by the taproom to sample this smooth, chocolatey coffee and to hear or discuss more about the role of women in coffee.
